Lahinch Golf Club
Lahinch Golf Course is located 15 minutes from Doolin cottages. Known widely, if somewhat misleadingly, as the St. Andrews of Ireland, Lahinch is a marvelous place. Lahinch is one of Ireland's oldest golf clubs and is one of the best loved by both Irish golfers and visitors alike. The setting is superb, right beside the village of Lahinch adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean.
The championship quality and classic feel of the links is the work of Alister Mackenzie (of Augusta and Cypress Point fame) but there is a charm and a quirkiness that belongs only to Lahinch. And you get a glorious whiff of Old Tom Morris at two of golf's most famous and exquisite anachronisms - the holes they call “The Dell” and “The Klondyke”.
There is no doubt that Lahinch is one of the finest links courses in the world and the setting just outside the seaside village overlooking the ocean makes Lahinch a continued favourite of all visiting golfers.

Doonbeg Golf Club
Doonbeg Golf Course is located 45 minutes from Doolin cottages on a truly remarkable site near the tiny parish of Doonbeg in County Clare. Designed by two-time British Open champion Greg Norman, and officially opened in the Spring of 2002, the course is a true links that will test a golfer's skill and mettle, and it has won accolades from golfers and media worldwide.
Tough and uncompromising, the Standard Scratch Score of 74 gives an indication that this course, though just over 6,800 yards, is not easy. Fourteen of the greens and twelve of the fairways required no changes at all, just a simple mowing of the grass. Routed along the existing 100-foot dunes, the layout is a simple loop of nine holes out and nine holes back, but the speed and direction of the wind make the course uniquely challenging every time you play. The towering fescue rough throughout is nearly impenetrable but they are nicely balanced by the wide fairways. The most memorable hole is the par-3 14th (pictured above), a short iron across a deep valley of dense dune grass to a green perched on the very edge of the coast line.
This is likely to be the last true Links that will ever be built in either Ireland or Britain and is the first designed by Norman in this part of the world.

Galway Bay Golf Club
The Natural water hazard is the Atlantic Ocean; such is the dramatic backdrop to this Par 72 PGA Championship 18 hole golf course that is Galway Bay Golf Resort. When designing the course, former Ryder Cup and World Cup golfer Christy O'Connor Jnr superbly blended the stunning backdrop of Galway Bay and the rugged curves of the Atlantic coastline with mature trees, water hazards, concealed bunkers and highly acclaimed putting surfaces. With variable wind speed and directions this Championship Galway golf course plays differently each day posing a considerable challenge to even the lowest handicap golfers, yet it is a true and fair test of golf.
